Plains Runoff Outlook

As of April 1, 2006, spring snowmelt runoff is forecast to be average to above average for the Battle River area in central Alberta and the Lloydminster - Cold Lake area. Average runoff is expected for the Edmonoton region and much of the area between Edmonton and Lloydminster - Cold Lake. Snowmelt has been very active in these areas, and the snowpack may be depleted by now. Plains snowmelt has generally finished for the season for the province south of a line through Red Deer and Coronation. Below average to average spring snowmelt runoff is expected for the Edson - Slave Lake region, below to much below average runoff is forecast for the Grande Prairie - Peace River area, and below average runoff is expected for the remainder of northern Alberta (Figure 1).
