Water Supply Outlook for Alberta

February 2002

Milk River Basin - Water Supply Forecasts

Much-below-average natural runoff volumes are forecast for the March to September 2002 period in the Milk River basin (Table 2). Current forecasted values for the March to September period for the Milk River at Milk River would rank tenth lowest in 84-years of record (1912-95). The February 1 forecasts are 10 to 12% higher than recorded values observed over the same time period last year. Most of the snow that had fallen in the basin earlier in the winter has been wiped out by warm weather and Chinook activity in January.
