Water Supply Outlook for Alberta

February 2003

Milk River Basin - Water Supply Forecasts

Much-below-average natural runoff volumes are forecast for the March to September 2003 period in the Milk River basin (Table 2). Current forecasts in the basin range from 35 to 37% of the median. For the Milk River at Milk River, current forecasted values for the March to September 2003 period would rank 12th lowest in 84 years of record (1912-95). Forecast volumes are higher than those recorded in 2001 and much less than those recorded last year. The February forecasts are lower than last month's due to the very low precipitation in January.
