Water Supply Outlook for Alberta

February 2007

Reservoir Storage Conditions

As of February 1, 2007, water storage in the major irrigation reservoirs in the Oldman River basin range from normal to above normal, with the St. Mary and Waterton reservoirs at normal levels and the Oldman and Chain Lakes reservoirs being above normal. Water storage in the basin is similar to storage at this time last year.

Water storage as of February 1, 2007 in the major hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs of the Bow River basin is generally below normal, except for the Ghost Reservoir which is above normal and the Lower Kananaskis and Upper Kananaskis lakes which are normal. Water storage is generally similar to storage at this time last year, except for Spray Lake, Upper Kananaskis Lake, Lake Minnewanka and Travers reservoirs which are lower than last year.

Water storage in the major reservoir of the Red Deer River basin is normal. Water storage in the Dickson Reservoir is similar to storage at this time last year.

Storage volumes in the major hydroelectric reservoirs in the North Saskatchewan River basin are normal for Lake Abraham and below normal for the Brazeau Reservoir. Water storage in Lake Abraham is similar to storage at this time last year, while the Brazeau Reservoir is nearly 35% lower than last year.

Water storage in the Paddle River Reservoir is below normal but the volume is higher than at this time last year.

February 1, 2007 reservoir data is available in Table 1.
