Water Supply Outlook for Alberta

May 2006

Reservoir Storage Conditions

As of May 1, 2006, water storage in the major irrigation reservoirs in the Oldman River basin is above normal, except for Keho Lake and Milk River Ridge Reservoir, which are normal. Water storage in the basin is generally similar to last year at this time.

Water storage as of May 1, 2006 in the major hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs of the Bow River basin is normal to above normal, except for Travers Reservoir, which is below normal. Water storage is generally similiar to last year at this time, except for Upper Kananaskis Lake which is much higher and for Travers Reservoir which is lower.

Water storage in the major reservoir of the Red Deer River basin is normal. Water storage in the Dickson Reservoir is lower than at this time last year.

Storage volumes in the major hydroelectric reservoirs in the North Saskatchewan River basin is normal to above normal. Water storages in both reservoirs, Lake Abraham and Brazeau Reservoir, are lower than last year at this time.

In the Athabasca River basin, the storage volume is below normal at both the Paddle River Reservoir and the South Heart Reservoir. Water storage in both reservoirs are lower than at this time last year.

May 1, 2006 reservoir data is available in Table 1.
