Water Supply Outlook for Alberta

May 2007

Reservoir Storage Conditions

As of May 1, 2007, water storage in the major irrigation reservoirs in the Oldman River basin is generally above normal, except for Keho Reservoir which is normal and Travers Reservoir which is below normal. Water storage in the basin is generally similar to this time last year for these reservoirs.

Storage volume in the Milk River Ridge Reservoir is normal and similar to this time last year.

Water storage as of May 1, 2007 in the major hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs of the Bow River basin is normal except above normal at Lake Minnewanka. Water storage in all reservoirs is slightly lower than last year at this time.

Water storage in the Dickson Reservoir, in the Red Deer River basin, is normal; slightly higher than at this time last year.

In the North Saskatchewan River basin, water storage in Lake Abraham is above normal and the same as at this time last year. Water storage in the Brazeau Reservoir is normal and is lower than at this time last year.

As of May 1, 2007, water storage in the Paddle River Reservoir in the Athabasca River basin was normal and twice as high than at this time last year. Water storage in the South Heart Reservoir in the Athabasca River basin was normal. Water levels have increased in both reservoirs since the recent storm in May. Current reservoir information can be found here.

May 1, 2007 reservoir data is available in Table 1.
