Water Supply Outlook for Alberta

April 2006

Reservoir Storage Conditions

As of April 1, 2006 water storage in the major irrigation reservoirs in the Oldman River basin is above normal, except Milk River Ridge reservoir which is normal. Water storage in the basin is similar to storage at this time last year, except at Clear Lake where it is much higher.

Water storage as of April 1, 2006 in most major hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs of the Bow River basin range from normal to above normal, with the exception of Lake McGregor which is below normal. Water storage is generally similar to last year at this time.

Water storage in the major reservoir of the Red Deer River basin is above normal. Water storage in the Dickson Reservoir is greater than at this time last year.

Storage volumes in the major hydroelectric reservoirs in the North Saskatchewan River basin are above normal for this time of year. Water storage in the basin is similar to storage at this time last year.

In the Athabasca River basin, the storage volume at the Paddle River reservoir is below normal and much lower than last April because the resservoir was emptied for maintenance this past fall. Storage volume is normal and similar to last year at the South Heart Reservoir.

April 1, 2006 reservoir data is available in Table 1.
